13 and counting...qualify for the London World Championships - August 3rd - 13th, 2017

Home advantage has so far not helped athletes hit the required IAAF qualification standards as the track and field season switch to regional championships. The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has however not relented in efforts to provide more opportunities to athletes to meet the required standards.

Weekend Akii Bua Championships: Another Qualifier for London 2017

Ugandan athletes have been granted another chance to qualify for the London 2017 London World Championships when UAF organizes the 19th edition of the Akii Bua Memorial Track and Field Championships on June 4, 2017 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The competition will however take place in the morning starting 9.00am.

Youngster Robert Chemonges wins in Duesseldorf

Uganda’s youngster Robert Chemonges is the winner of the 15th METRO Marathon Duesseldorf with a personal best. The 19 year-old clocked a fine 2:10:31 in windy conditions, which should secure qualification for the World Championships’ marathon in London this summer. Norway’s Weldu Gebretsadik took second with 2:11:16 and also qualified for London while Yared Shegumo of Poland was third. The runner-up from the European Championships in Zurich 2014 clocked 2:12:33.

World Cross Country Ambassador, Tergat launches Greening Project

IAAF Cross Country Ambassador Paul Tergat has appealed to the youth   to plant more trees as a means of saving the world from environmental depletion. He made the call at Kololo Independence Ground as he launched the IAAF Kampala World Cross Country Championships Kampala 2017 Greening project, which is one of the legacy programmes for the event aimed at having a greener world.

London 2017 Championship journey begins

The journey to the 2017 London World Athletics Championships, World Under-18 Championships and Commonwealth Youth Games begin this weekend March 4, 2017 at Mandela Stadium, Namboole.

Athletes will be gearing up at hitting qualification marks early in the season for the above international competitions during the 1st National Track and Field Meet. The competition scheduled to run in the morning will see athletes’ kick start their campaign.
